artist's statement

Patterns in the natural world are constantly changing. Ebbing tides leave ephemeral images in the sand. Weather and vegetation are here one day and gone the next. Vestiges of human endeavor are in the process of disappearing.

Amidst this continual flux, tangled areas and dark spaces emerge. They are uncomfortable; akin to the dark spaces and tangled areas of dreams and fairy tales. When attended to they lead to a different level of understanding.

My work investigates time shifts, spatial juxtapositions and the dark and disordered aspects of nature. Chaos is a step in the process as the disparate elements compete. My job is to bring these highly charged states into balance.
