Traces of Presence

Traditionally houses in Newfoundland have been brightly painted. Old colors like dory buff and red ochre stand out in dramatically  barren landscapes. In the 1970’s the city of St. John’s decided to make its houses more colorful, adding such colors as Bonne Bay and Ferryland Downs. Much of the city is now painted in traditional Newfoundland colors.
